A Letter to the Willamina Community
Dear Willamina Families,
Welcome back! As we prepare for a new school year, we want to extend a warm welcome to our new students, families, and staff. We are so excited to get this year started and see all the great things our students will accomplish.
Welcoming New Leadership
We are thrilled to announce a new team of leaders at the Willamina Middle and High School. Principal Jeremy Hurl, a longtime local, joins us with a deep understanding of our community. He is joined by Derek Barnett, our new Athletic Director, who comes highly respected in the state for his work in Oregon High School Sports. Additionally, Mike Solem will continue in his role as our Dean of Student Success, and Mike Hughes will serve as our Middle School lead and District Special Needs Director. We are confident that this team will bring a new vision that will continue to improve our learning environment.
At the Willamina Elementary School, we are fortunate to have the same great team returning, with Cera Norwood and Shanna Watkins continuing to lead our youngest learners.
Important Information and Resources
Our staff has been hard at work all summer, with many teachers participating in summer school, credit recovery programs, academic camps, and literacy training to better serve our students. We have an amazing staff, and we are so proud of their dedication.
As we get closer to the first day of school, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Registration is open online for all students. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office staff.
Kinder Camp is a huge success, and we're enjoying the great energy of our new students!
Fall sports are starting soon! Please make sure your student has a physical completed. Once our bus routes are finalized, we will post them on our website.
Please enroll in ParentSquare to stay informed and connected with our district. It is our primary communication tool for important updates.
We understand that the start of the school year can be a challenge for some families. Please know that Lynne Shore, our amazing Food Service and Family Assistance Coordinator, is here to help. Reach out to her if your child needs something for the start of school.
We have amazing staff, students, and families in our district, and we can't wait to see what this year brings.
Sincerely,
Mike Gass, Superintendent
