October 2018 Edition

Tim France

From Mr. France's Desk

September has flown by and October is here!  The campus is once again lively with so many traditional fall events.

The High School students are set for an exciting and enjoyable homecoming week:  spirit days, a noise parade, bonfire, and dance.  Thursday night’s football game is scheduled against Taft.  The Middle School students are busy with many Red Ribbon Week activities.  Some special guest speakers visiting the school include the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Youth Prevention team, as well as Deputy Derek Trombla from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office.

The district recently practiced drills and procedures for “Lock Out/Lock Down” and will participate in the international Great Shakeout earthquake drill on October 18.

Our staff is working diligently on content area curriculum mapping, fall goal setting, and professional development as they begin implementation of the new iReady curriculum for reading and math.

Many of our Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors have been working hard to earn college credits through their enrollment in advanced classes.  Sophomores and Juniors are scheduled to take the PSATs on October 24th.

We’re off to a fantastic start!  I welcome and value your positive energy, dedication, and support for our students and staff as we enthusiastically work together to achieve our school improvement goals and to help our students succeed.

Attendance

Attendance Matters

There was a great turn-out for “Attendance Night” and we appreciated the families who attended the recent Open House, as well.  Our first “Student of the Month” breakfast will be held on October 10 at 7:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Improving student attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism continues to be a goal for our district. We want every student to come to school everyday and to maintain a 92% or better average for the entire year!  Please, help us by making sure that your son or daughter is attending school as often as possible.  Help us stomp out chronic absenteeism.  Please schedule appointments around “No School” Days.  Thank you for helping us!
